Notice Of Public Hearing

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT pursuant to Town Law Section 189-a, a Joint Public Hearing of the Town Board of the Town of Lake George and the Board of Trustees of the Village of Lake George will be held on Thursday October 29, 2026 commencing at 5:00 PM at Lake George Town Hall, 20 Old Post Rd Lake George, NY 12845 for the purposes of considering the establishment of a joint fire district in those areas currently comprised of the Town of Lake George and the Village of Lake George and whether the formation of a joint fire district is in the public interest for the continued provision of fire protection and emergency services within the Town of Lake George and Village of Lake George; and to hear all persons interested in the subject.

The boundaries of the proposed joint fire district being generally described as follows: the Town of Lake George inclusive of the two current fire protection districts of the Town, and the Village of Lake George, with the boundaries of the proposed joint fire district  being the same as the boundaries of the entirety of the Town of Lake George.

The objects for which it is proposed that a joint fire district be established are to provide for a uniform, equitable, and stable system for the governance and funding of fire protection and emergency services and the purposes for which it is proposed that a joint fire district be established is to ensure the continued provision of fire protection and emergency services by the dedicated volunteers serving the community by establishing a board of fire commissioners of the joint fire district to serve as the authority having jurisdiction over the provision of such services and operations as provided by law.

The proposed joint fire district that is the subject of the public hearing noticed here would become the sponsor of a service award program pursuant to Section 216-b of the General Municipal Law. The estimated annual cost of the service award program to the joint fire district is $41,000.00.
