Lake George Opens Bidding for Landmark Shepard Park Amphitheater Project

The Village of Lake George is excited to announce that the long-anticipated Shepard Park Amphitheater Reconstruction Project is now officially out to bid. This milestone represents a bold step forward in the Village’s vision to create a dynamic, inclusive, and high-performance public venue along the shores of one of the country’s most iconic lakes.

The project will reconstruct and modernize the beloved amphitheater, transforming it into a regional hub for concerts, cultural events, and community gatherings. Plans include a fully redesigned performance space, amphitheater seating enhancements, improved accessibility and landscaping, upgraded AV and lighting infrastructure, and a new dedicated storage facility and community space on the lower level, all designed to meet the needs of contemporary performers and audiences while preserving the park’s historic charm.

The landmark Shepard Park Amphitheater Project is receiving substantial support from New York State’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI), a competitive program aimed at revitalizing downtowns and bolstering long-term economic and cultural vitality.

Design and engineering were completed in Summer 2025 following a near 12-month process with a committee of local stakeholders, and extensive community engagement and public workshops. Construction is anticipated to begin in Fall 2025, with a Spring 2026 completion targeted to coincide with the start of the performance season.

About the Downtown Revitalization Initiative

The Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) is a flagship economic development effort led by New York State to transform downtown neighborhoods into vibrant, walkable destinations. The DRI is managed by the Department of State in partnership with Empire State Development, NYS Homes and Community Renewal, and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. Lake George’s amphitheater project was awarded funding through this program in recognition of its potential to strengthen the community’s cultural and economic infrastructure.
